Description

Avast is a brand of antivirus software developed by AVAST Software s.r.o. for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Android and Linux users. The software products have a user interface available in 45 languages. The name Avast originates from "Anti-Virus Advanced SeT".

AVAST Software s.r.o was founded in 1991, and headquartered in Prague, Czech Republic.It produces security programs for personal and commercial use. More than 200 million devices worldwide were reported to use Avast products as of 2013. In January 2014, Avast had 15.9% of the worldwide security vendor market share.

Avast has received a number of awards from Virus Bulletin for close to 100% detection of "in-the-wild" viruses and won the Secure Computing Readers' Trust Award. Its central scanning engine has been certified by ICSA Labs and West Coast Labs' Checkmark process.
